Dust to Dust by Rashad Freeman

 5.0 out 5 Stars

Survival, Death, Love, Betrayal and Heartache...what else could you want?

The first thing that stuck out about this book was how real it felt.  There was no commando or navy seal tearing through the world, kicking ass and knocking down everyone in his way.  No, instead you got Randall, a guy that can't even shoot a gun, but has to protect his entire family.

I was an immediate fan after the first page.  The story passed the reality test which is a big deal for me.  But then it got better, the characters are flawed in every way that makes you love them.  You know they're just gonna do dumb stuff, but you understand why.  Add in the amount of detail poured into the pages and you find yourself laughing one moment and crying the next.

The way society just falls apart and how Rashad details it, is scary realistic.  At the same time there's a larger issue looming over everything that we just don't know about yet.  I imagine this will be discussed in a later installment, but it adds a sense of suspense that keeps the reader afraid.

This is fast paced story, with loads of detail that make you feel like you're sitting in the middle of it all.  The most impressive thing about Rashad's writing is how he's able to convey so much in so few words.  It takes less than a page for you to know everything you need to know about the character and really get a sense of who they are.

This is certainly a series to get into and a top pick for 2016.  I'll be biting my nails waiting for the next installment and hoping this series continues for a long time to come.

So this review is for the entire series.  Now that I've read them all it would be almost impossible to give a a review of each individual book without it being tainted by what I know.  So the series it is.

I really liked this series.  For starters the pacing was great, the detail was on point and it had just the right mixture of romance and blood-smeared, death to keep readers engaged well into the night.  I found it hard to put this book down and I suspect most readers did or will.

This was a different take on the whole zombie craze.  The two main characters were actually some sort of zombie hybrid which flipped the idea on its head.  The characters have so many reasons to hate the zombies, yet at some point they find themselves pitying them.  There's a deeper story at play here and you don't find that too often in this genre.

Sure there were some silly parts and some parts that I just couldn't get behind, but they were few and far between.  For the bulk of this series I found myself biting my nails and fearing the next page turn.  Lovers were lost as were favorite characters and the whole no one is spared idea was in full effect.  If you're a fan of page burning, zombie tales you won't be disappointed here.

Quick update

I think another book for me to review is on it's way.  I'm twiddling my fingers with anticipation.  On another note I saw a trailer today for the movie from Stephanie Meyers book "The Host."  Haven't read the book, but the trailer has seriously peaked my interest so I think a review of the book is definitely coming.  I never really got into the whole Twilight thing, so I'm not jaded.  Seems like 2013 is gonna be a great year for sci fi as a lot of new movies are coming out as well as adaptations of books.  After Earth seems awesome and I'm really excited to see book one of Mortal Instruments on the big screen.

So no followers yet

Welp I guess I better get to reviewing books.  I know this blog just started but jeez louis.  I'm sure if I put words like Justin Bieber and Facebook IPO, someone will stumble upon this site.  Shame, I don't even remember what the url is time to take to twitter and start the social media blitz.  But really if you have a book you'd like reviewing on contact me at tommy.mcbride35@gmail.com  I can't guarantee it'll help your sales being that at this point I'm the only one that even reads this blog.  But you'll get an honest opinion :-)
